Laconia----Andre D Machain 83, died unexpectedly Thursday, November 27, 2014.
He was predeceased by his parents, Andre and Laura Machain of Beverly, MA.,brother Alvin Machain, son Nathaniel Machain in 1999, and Jane Machain his beloved wife of 49 years in 2013.
Andre is survived by three of his children, son Bob Machain and his wife Maggie Machain of Windham NH. Daughter Marthe Kelly and husband Gary of Manchester NH, daughter Kimberley Castelot and husband John, Manchester NH. Grandchildren Laura and Sarah Castelot, Manchester, NH. Amy and Molly Machain, Hyannis MA.
In his life;
Andre was born February 15, 1931 in Beverly, MA and graduated from Phillips Academy/Andover in 1949. He graduated with honors from Harvard University, class of 1953. He served as a linguist in the U.S. Army from 1953 – 1956. He met Jane (Gaudette, widowed) and her three children in 1963, they married in 1964 and had one daughter, Kimberley (Machain) Castelot. Andre worked many years at the Knight Agency in Boston, MA; and retired as president of the MacIntosh Agency in Bedford, NH.
Andre was an avid N.E. Patriots and Boston Red Sox fan, He enjoyed swimming, music, reading and had a special talent for writing and was fluent in the romance languages. He and his wife Jane enjoyed travelling to Bermuda and spending time at their lake house in Ossipee, N.H. Andre was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Tilton, NH.
Andre “Poppy” will be greatly missed by his family, many friends and his special companion, Carolyn Parker, of Laconia, NH. Also his buddies from the Ellacoya Country Store where he enjoyed coffee and cribbage. We will miss Andre for his sense of humor, devotion to loved ones and never ending zest for life.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, December 6, 2014 at 10am at the Trinity Episcopal Church, 274 Main Street, Tilton, NH 03276.
