William “Bill” E. Ramsay, age 90, passed away at Weymouth Health Care Center on Sunday evening, November 23, 2014. Bill was the beloved husband of the late Shirley S. (Gove) Ramsay. He was predeceased by his daughter Sharon Lee Ramsay. Bill was the devoted father of Lee Ann Verney and her husband Rich and Bill Ramsay, all of Weymouth and the beloved grampa of five grandchildren, Sharon Verney and her partner Lisa Hanno of Stoughton, Matthew Verney of Weymouth, Keith Verney and his wife Becky of Methuen, and Kyle and Shaun Ramsay both of Weymouth. Delights of grampa’s life were his great grandchildren, Dylan and Eva Verney. Bill was the younger brother of the late John and Joe Ramsay of Braintree.
Bill was born in Cambridge and a resident of Weymouth for the past 63 years.
He was a longtime employee of Boston Gear Works in North Quincy until his retirement in 1985. He enjoyed his occupation as a Quality Assurance Supervisor.
Bill was an avid sportsman. In his younger years he bowled and played softball on the Boston Gear teams. He played golf well into his 9th decade and enjoyed the special friendships of his fellow golfers. He never stopped enjoying his televised sports games (especially football) from his recliner.
There will be no visiting hours or funeral service (per Bill’s request). His ashes will be interred during a private service at Mount Auburn Cemetery.
A charity that became close to Bill’s heart during the terminal illness of his daughter was the Dana- Farber Cancer Institute/ The Jimmy Fund -10 Brookline Place West Brookline, Ma. 02455-7226. The family would be honored if you would like to donate to this charity in memory of Bill.
