New Bedford – Isabel (Avila) Martin, age 102 of South Dartmouth, passed away Tuesday, November 18, 2014 at St. Lukes Hospital. She was the wife of the late Arthur Martin and daughter of the late Maria A. (Sylvia) and Gregario C. Avila. Isabel was born in New Bedford, worked as a Stitcher at Sherri Gail Clothing. She was a member of St Mary’s Church and a former member of ILGWU, and American War Vets Seniors. Isabel’s hobbies included walking and reading, and she also enjoyed being with her family.
Survivors include her daughter: Paula Santos of Fort Worth, Texas, 2 grandchildren: Neil Allen Santos of Colorado and Jessica Leigh Hansen of Texas, 1 great granddaughter Riley Nicole Hansen and 3 siblings: Alice Reis and Norma Cambra both of North Dartmouth and Elder Avila of South Dartmouth. She is predeceased by her sisters Mary Veiga, Christine Avila, Olive Souza and her brother, Carl Avila.
Isabel wishes were to be cremated. A Memorial Mass will take place at St Mary’s Church, South Dartmouth on Tuesday, November 25 at 9:00 A.M. Burial at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne, MA.,with her husband, will be private. Arrangements placed in the care of Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. in New Bedford, Ma.
