Obituary

Judith A. (Olson) Norton age 80 of Hadley, MA formerly of Brockton, died November 17, 2014 at The Copley at Stoughton after struggling with COPD for the past several years. She was the devoted wife of John A. Norton for 59 years. Judith was born August 31, 1934 in Boston and raised in Milton a daughter of the late Emma and Herbert Olson. She attended school in Milton and graduated from Milton High School in 1952. There she served as her class secretary. She married her high school sweetheart John A Norton of Milton in 1955, whom she met in the 9th grade. They moved to Brockton in 1958 where they raised their family.

Judith’s first job was at State Street Trust Co in Boston as a secretary. At that time she was chosen as a Career Girl Panel in 1954. She was also a member of the Rainbow girls in her earlier years. She raised her 3 children while living in Brockton, Ma for over 25 years. Most of her free time was spent driving her children to their sporting events. After the children were grown, she went back to work for Aetna Insurance for 10 years, then they moved to Hadley, MA in 1988. There she worked at Chaffee – Heliwell Insurance for several years before retiring.

Judith loved to shop and treasured her collections of bears, bells and tea cups. She enjoyed swimming and bowling during her free time. She also enjoyed traveling, with Aruba becoming one of her favorite places. She was an avid fan of all the New England Professional sports teams and the Connecticut Women’s basketball program. She loved her many pets through the years, too numerous to mention. After finally settling into her retirement, her only supervisory role was keeping an eye on her husband and the beautiful gardens they created together.

Judith, was a quiet person who always opened her home to their friends, her children’s friends and their neighbors. She was filled with grace and beauty. She will be missed by all that knew her.

Judith is survived by her husband and their 3 children and their spouses; David A Norton and and his wife Colleen of Mattapoisett, Peter K Norton and his wife Kristin White of Boston and Judith A Berger and her husband Rick of Easthampton. She leaves 3 granddaughters; Cara Norton, Alicia Norton, and Rachel Norton and 2 great grandchildren; Olivia and Julianna.

Visiting hours will be held in the Conley Funeral Home 138 Belmont St. (Rte. 123) Brockton on Friday from 9-11 am. A funeral Service will be held at 11 am followed by burial in Milton Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations can be sent to the VNA Hospice, 168 Industrial Dr. #1 Northampton, MA 01060 or the Dakin Animal Society, 163 Montague Rd, Leverett, MA 01054.
