New Bedford – Maria de Jesus Carreiro, age 93 of New Bedford, passed away, peacefully, on Tuesday, November 18, 2014 at St. Luke’s Hospital. She was the widow of Antone Carreiro and the daughter of Maria do Rosario (Raposo) and Francisco Rocha.
Maria was born in St. Michael, Azores, moved to this country in 1950 and worked as a Seamstress for many years.
She is survived by 3 daughters: Mary Lou DaSilva and her husband Carl of New Bedford, Catherine Cruz and her husband Michael Rudnick of Providence, R.I. and Regina Simas and her husband Paul of Dartmouth; 4 grandchildren: Michael Pires, Sherron Engel, Aaron Rudnick and Tessa Rudnick; 3 siblings: Maria do Rosario Rocha of St. Michael, Antonio Rocha of Toronto, Canada and Maria Judite DaPonte of Ontario, Canada; as well as 3 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by several siblings.
Her funeral will be Saturday beginning in the funeral home at 8:45 A.M. with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 9:45 A.M. Burial to follow in St. John Cemetery. Visiting hours will take place in the funeral home on Friday evening from 5 - 8 P.M.
