William M. ‘Willie’ Costen, 59, passed away Thursday, November 13, 2014 at University of Mass. Hospital, University Campus in Worcester. He leaves behind his wife of 37 years, Karen F. (Arduini) Lavallee, son, Jason A. Lavallee, a daughter, Stephanie L. Costen all of Worcester, His father, Michael Costen Jr. and his wife Ruth of Dudley,4 grandchildren, Jaedon, Niana, Derick and Mckenzie, 2 brothers; Steven J. Costen of Dudley and Derek R. Costen of Webster, 2 sisters; Rose M. wife of Roger Jones, Jr. of Mississippi, and Sharon C. wife of Eugene Chauvin of Dudley, several nieces and nephews including his ‘sports buddy’ Megan.
Willie was born in Putnam, Ct. son of the late Frances (Hyrzan) Costen who died in 1988 and lived in Webster for many years before moving to Worcester over 30 years ago.
He was also predeceased by a brother, Joseph P. Costen who died 1996.
He was a 1973 graduate of Bartlett High School and also served in the U. S. Navy from 1973-1976.
He worked as a computer specialist for Raytheon Corp., prior to that he worked as a machinist for several companies including Heald Machine, Warner- Swasey and Digital Corp.
Willie was a cancer survivor, enjoyed sports, especially the Red Sox and Patriots, of which he was a season ticket holder, and golf, he was a member of Clear View Golf Club in Millbury. He also enjoyed going to Weekapaug Beach in Rhode Island.
Calling Hours for Willie will be Monday, November 17, 2014 from 4-7PM at the ROBERT J. MILLER FUNERAL HOME and LAKE CHAPEL, 366 School St., Webster. There will be a ‘Time of Sharing’ at 6:15 PM in the Funeral Home.
A ‘Celebration of Life’ will be at a later date and time to be announced.
