Obituary

MEDFORD: Lucy M. (Cappucci) Atkinson, age 86, of Medford, formerly of Natick, died on November 12, 2014, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital in Medford. She had been the beloved wife of the late Glenford H. Atkinson for 37 years.

Born, raised and educated in East Boston, Lucy was the daughter of the late Joseph and Lucy (Robasco) Cappuccio. She was employed as an Insurance Underwriter at Savory, Savory Hayward and Nixon Insurance Companies in Boston and Newtonville. She spent over 40 years sharing her expertise with her clients.

The Atkinson’s enjoyed many memorable summer trips as a family, often visiting Prince Edward Island, or vacationing on Lake George. She also enjoyed vacationing to Maine with her son and his family.

A devout Catholic all of her life, Lucy had been a daily Communicant and Eucharistic Minister while a member of Saint Patrick’s Parish in Natick. She made many pilgrimages over the years, visiting the Holy Land, Lourdes, Medjugorje, and the Shrine of Saint Anne de Beaupre in Quebec. Every year she visited the Shrine of Saint Ann in Sturbridge, Mass. Lucy was very involved in prolife and marched in many Walks for Life in Washington DC. and Boston.

In 2004, Lucy moved to the homestead in Medford to live with her sister Angela. They continued the family tradition of a warm and welcoming home to all who dropped by to visit.

She is survived by her son, Glen W. Atkinson and his wife Marie of Milford; her grandchildren, Caroline and Joseph; her sisters, Angela Cambria of Medford, and Rita Vachon and her husband Albert of Woburn; her brothers, Joseph Cappucci of Londonderry, NH, and Robert Cappucci and his companion Rita Ingersoll of Saugus; and many nieces and nephews and their families. She was also the sister of the late Anthony Cappucci and Rev. Chester Cappucci, OMI.

Her funeral will be from the John Everett & Sons Funeral Home, 4 Park Street at Natick Common, on Tuesday, Nov. 18th at 9:00AM with a Mass of Christian Burial in Saint Patrick’s Church, 44 East Central Street, Natick, at 10:00AM. Burial will follow at Saint Patrick’s Cemetery.

Visiting hours will be on Monday, 4 – 7PM. Expressions of sympathy may be made in Lucy’s memory to the Servants of Christ Ministry, 87A Maple St., Scituate, MA, 02066, or the Oblates of Mary Immaculate, 486 Chandler St., Tewksbury, MA 01876.
