Obituary

Robert A. “Rob” Butler, Sr. age 88, of Brockton passed away Friday November 7, 2014 at his home surrounded by his family. He was the loving husband for 61 years of the late Beverly G. (Cook) Butler. Rob was born in Brockton a son of the late William J. and Margaret C. (Sullivan) Butler and remained a lifelong resident of the city. Following his graduation from Brockton High School in 1944, Rob enlisted in the US Army and served in the Pacific Theatre during WWII.
After working for the City of Brockton for over 40 years, Rob retired in 1988 as superintendent of refuse. In his free time he enjoyed dancing with his wife, fixing anything, gardening and helping others. Rob was a father to many of the neighborhood kids. He was a devout Catholic and longtime communicant of Our Lady of Lourdes Church.
Rob will be remembered as the nicest and most affable man you’d ever met. His true joys in life were his wife, children and grandchildren. They were his world.
Rob is survived by his eight devoted children Christine Butler Krafton, Robert A. Butler, Jr., Catherine Butler Smith, Beverly Butler Wright, Erin Butler Parsekian, Leah Butler Peper, Shawn P. Butler, and Arthur W. Butler. He was the cherished grandfather of Justin Krafton, Christina Krafton Murray, Robert A. Butler III, Jonathan Butler, Howard Wright, Jr., Alexandra, Victoria and Matthew Wright, Holly and Brendan Smith, Jeremy Cataquet, Liam Parsekian, Michael and Jack Butler, Sean and Caroline Peper. He leaves 3 great grandchildren Christian and Prudence Krafton and Isla Murray. Robert was the brother of Marie Belcher and the late Daniel, John F. “Buddy”, Jeremiah “Chappy”, Ernest and William “Joe”Butler, Jr., Nora Tarentino and Claire Curtin. He also leaves many nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be held in the Conley Funeral Home 138 Belmont (rte. 123) Brockton on Wednesday 2-4 & 6-8 pm. The funeral procession will gather at the funeral home on Thursday at 9:30 am for a Funeral Mass in Our Lady of Lourdes Church at 10:30 am. Burial in Pine Hill Cemetery, W. Bridgewater.
