Alexander E. Maranda 91, of Avenue C, died November 6, 2014 at the University of Maryland Baltimore -Washington Medical Center. Mr. Maranda was on a weekend tour of Washington for WWII Veterans, sponsored by the RI Retired Fire Chiefs Association. He was the husband of the late Theresa L. (Godin) Maranda. Born in Woonsocket, May 15, 1923 he was a son of the late Ernest and Imelda (Thibault) Maranda. Alex was a Fire Fighter for the City of Woonsocket for thirty two years, before retiring in 1980. He served in the US Army during WWII. He was a member and Past President of the Sayles Hill Rod and Gun Club. Alex was a member of the Cercle Laurier Club, the Woonsocket Lodge of Elks, and the Lafayette Club.
He is survived by several nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by his brother William Maranda.
His funeral will be held Wednesday at 9:00 AM from the Fournier & Fournier Funeral Home 463 South Main St. Woonsocket, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in Holy Family Church, South Main St. Woonsocket. Burial with Military Honors will follow in the RI Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Exeter. Visiting Hours are Tuesday 4-7 PM.
