Adela Betancourt Torres
11/6/2014

After a long but courageous battle with cancer, Adela Betancourt Torres passed away the morning of November 6, 2014 at the age of 59. Her devotion to her family and her firm belief in God supported her in her struggle and ultimately gave her peace. She leaves behind her beloved daughters, Mabel and Sarai Barahona, her grandchildren, Brianna and Joshua, her sisters Beulah, Elsa, Antonia and Edna, numerous nieces and nephews, and her husband, Hector Torres.

Adela was born on October 5, 1955 in Tela, Honduras to father Basilio Eduardo Betancourt and mother Mabel Calvina Lyons, who predeceased her. Adela moved to Boston, MA with her husband and young daughter in 1982. Since then she worked hard to provide a strong and loving home for her daughters and eventually grandchildren. Creativity was in her blood and she was a true jack of all trades - from English/Spanish teacher, dancer, carpenter, mechanic, event planner, Sunday Bible School teacher and preacher, she did it all.

She remained a funny, compassionate, brave and iron-willed woman, with the sweetest smile even throughout her final months. The family would like to thank her team of doctors and nurses at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Hope Hospice for their constant and attentive treatment. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 12, 2014 from 10am - 1pm at the Brady Fallon Funeral Home, 10 Tower St (Opp Forest Hills T Station) Jamaica Plain, MA. Burial will follow at Forest Hills Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please send a donation to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute; Attn: Ian Krop, M.D.- HER-2 Breast Cancer Research.
