Obituary

DARTMOUTH — Cynthia C. (Golden) Hazell, age 68, passed Sunday, October 26, 2014 at her home in Dartmouth, Ma. She was the widow of James A. Hazell and the loving companion of Ellsworth “Butch” Chase for the last 32 years.

Cynthia was born in Pawtucket, Rhode Island to the late Richard Golden Sr. and Gladys (Szczepan) Golden. Several years later the family moved to New Bedford, Ma. Cynthia graduated from New Bedford High School and attended Babson College. She was employed by Maritime Terminals as a secretary, the New Bedford Public Schools as a substitute teacher and for the last 30 years was the office manager for Dartmouth Power Equipment of Dartmouth, Ma. Cynthia was a parishioner of the Grace Episcopal Church, New Bedford.

In her spare time, Cynthia enjoyed her pond with its swans and ducks. She also had a passion for flowers and enjoyed gardening.

Cynthia leaves behind her son, Charlton A. “Chuck” Hazell and his wife Cheryl of New Bedford, her daughter, Heidi J. (Hazell) Cope and her fiance Eric Branco of Buzzards Bay, her brother, Richard A. Golden Jr. of New Bedford, a grandson, Kevin J. Cope of Florida, a granddaughter, Marissa O. Hazell of New Bedford, a great-granddaughter, Aliyah N. Melendez of New Bedford, her nephew, Aaron P. Letendre and his wife Jenn of Acushnet, her two aunts, Barbara Nichols of California and Helena Kozlowski of New York, her cousins Steven Kozlowski of Michigan, Pamela Tobin of New York and Janice Palomino of Texas, brother-in-law Henry Hazell and his wife Claire of New Bedford, nephew Kenn Hazell of Florida, sister-in-law Dorothy Judy of Nevada and dear friend Norma Hall and her husband Gerald of Dartmouth. She was also the granddaughter of the late Walter and Victoria Szczepan of James St. in New Bedford.

Relatives and friends are invited to visiting hours on Wednesday, October 29th from 4-7 p.m. and her service on Thursday at 10 a.m. in the WILSON CHAPEL, 479 County St., New Bedford. Burial in Friend's Cemetery in Dartmouth is private,
