Rosemary H. (Hartnett) Grandfield Wilkie

WEST SPRINGFIELD – Rosemary (Hartnett) Grandfield Wilkie, 81, of West Springfield, was Called Safely Home on Sunday, October 26, 2014. She passed into Eternal Life at Saint Francis Hospital in Hartford, Connecticut surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family. She was born in Fall River, Massachusetts on October 13, 1933, a beloved daughter of the late Owen Hartnett and Anna (Noga) Hartnett. She was raised in Fall River, graduated from the former Sacred Heart Academy in Fall River and lived in Fall River for many years before moving to West Springfield in 1961. She was last employed as an Administrative Assistant for the F. L. Roberts Company in Springfield. Because of her love to travel with her late husband, Jim, to many countries, she later was employed as a travel agent for Travel Magic in Agawam. Since her childhood, Rosemary was passionate about singing and enjoyed many different genres of music. Active in her faith, she was a longtime communicant of Sacred Heart Church in Springfield where she and her late husband, Jim, were the travel coordinators for the Over 60 Club of the Parish. She was predeceased by her beloved husbands, Ralph P. Grandfield who was Called Home in 1965 and James N. “Jim” Wilkie, Jr. who was Called Home on May 16, 2009. She leaves her loving children, Kathleen A. Grandfield of Broad Brook, CT and Michael R. Grandfield and his wife, Kelly, of West Suffield, CT; her four cherished grandchildren whom she adored, Nicholas, Nathan, Kaitlin and Meghan Grandfield; her dear brother, Robert A. Hartnett of Seekonk, MA; her dear sister, Eleanor Jerome of Westport Point, MA; her dear sister-in-law, Irene Hartnett of Fall River, MA; her dear brother-in-law of the Wilkie family, Donald D. Wilkie and his wife, Rosalie, of Florida; her dear sister-in-law of the Wilkie family, Barbara M. Strickland of West Springfield; her close family friend, Ann Milner; and her many dear nephews, nieces, cousins and extended members of the Grandfield, Wilkie and Hartnett families. Besides her parents and husbands, she was also predeceased by her dear brothers, Owen, Richard and Donald Hartnett; and her dear sister, Frances A. Duffy. Her friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Friday morning, October 31, 2014 at 9:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, 395 Chestnut Street, Springfield, MA 01104. Her Committal Service will follow the Mass at 11 a.m. in the Chapel at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main Street, Agawam, MA 01001. A private visitation will be held for her family and close friends immediately preceding the Mass at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Springfield Chapels, (413-737-1177), 7 Chapin Terrace, Springfield, MA 01107. Her family has requested that memorial donations be made in her memory to the Alzheimer’s Association, 264 Cottage Street, Springfield, MA 01104.
