James B. “Jim” McCandless, 83, passed away Sunday, October 26, 2014. Dad was born July 28, 1931 to the late Lillian (Coy) and Ruel B. McCandless.
He graduated from duPont Manual High School in 1949. Dad was a Veteran of the United States Air Force, serving in the Korean War, and was a proud member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars # 2921 for 54 years. He retired from Alcoa in 1983.
Dad loved gardening, traveling, hiking and spending summers at the beach with his family.
In addition to his Parents, Dad was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Alberta C. (Brinkhaus), sister: Rita Land and a brother, Bill McCandless.
Jim is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Lisa and Scott Hazel and Laura and Mike Thompson; his treasured grandsons Jacob & Elijah;
a sister, Anita Givens; beloved niece, Dian Craven; dear cousin, Edwin Cooksey and many nieces, nephews and cousins, who will miss him dearly.
A private celebration of Dad’s life will take place at the Columbarium at Cave Hill Cemetery.
