Obituary

Laconia--Kenneth Paul Glidden of Laconia, beloved son and only child of the late Frank Benjamin and Agnes (Boudreau) Glidden, was called back peacefully from his home on October 22, 2014. He was born in Laconia in a blizzard and rode out on an autumn storm.

Ken held a Bachelors of Science and Arts in finance from Lowell Technological Institute (Honors) and a Juris Doctor from Suffolk University Law School. He began his professional career in Albany, New York, as an accountant for the Albany International Corporation. While working in municipal finance for the City of Boston, Ken took night courses at Suffolk to earn his law degree. He continued with the City of Boston during the Kevin White and Ray Flynn administrations.

Ken would, when prodded, share with friends reminiscences of Albany International and Boston government, such as the times when he represented the city, as comptroller of its cultural affairs office, during visits by foreign dignitaries. Even years later, when Ken strolled around Beacon Hill or sat at the Oyster Bar near City Hall, folks would come up to him, so glad to see him again.

After fourteen years of service, Ken retired from Boston City government as First Assistant Collector-Treasurer. Ken returned to New Hampshire where he practiced general and municipal law, criminal defense and prosecution in state and federal courts, and appellate work before the First Circuit. He also used his financial expertise to benefit a variety of public and private entities.

Ken was happiest fishing in Alaska and Canada, locally with Cousin George, lobstering with Ed Heaphy, and boating. He was a consummate Patriots fan. Ken restored homes he lived in on Gilmanton's Shell Camp and took good care of his venerable Laconia home. Ken was a patient dignified man of uncommon modesty. He had no enemies. Despite his quiet ways, his fearless energy, strength, exuberant laugh and wit are gifts many cherish.

Ken is survived by cousins Michael Boudreau, Jerry Boudreau and George Boudreau, numerous other Boudreau, Moulton and Tibbetts cousins in the area, by his beloved cats, Iris, Josephine, and Douglas and partner Joyce Donohue.

There will be no calling hours.

According to Ken's wishes services will be private.

In lieu of flowers or cards, keep Ken in your heart, remember his goodness and light, and consider memorial donations to the New Hampshire Humane Society, PO Box 572 Laconia, NH 03247 or the Central New Hampshire VNA & Hospice, 780 North Main Street, Laconia NH 03246.
