Normand J. Bedard

Normand J. Bedard, 95 of Salem, passed away Saturday evening, October 25, 2014 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House surrounded by his family. He was the loving husband of Georgette A. (Soucy) Bedard with whom he had shared 67 years of marriage at the time of her death in November of last year.

Born and raised in Salem, he was the son of the late Alfred J. and Amanda (Berube) Bedard. Normand finished two years at Assumption College in Worcester and two years at St. John Seminary in Brighton. After leaving the seminary he worked for the family owned Bedard’s Market and later became an agent for Boston Mutual, ACA St. Jean the Baptist and Sentry insurance companies. In the mid 1970’s, Normand began working full time as inspector for weights and measures for the City of Salem and part time for the Town of Ipswich. He retired from the City of Salem in 1981.

Normand was a kind, gentle and deeply religious family man. His life revolved around the love of his life Georgette, his children, grandchildren and siblings. He enjoyed his many friends and extended family and would never miss an opportunity to chat and share a story or two, or three. Throughout his life, Normand nurtured his great love and knowledge of music. In his younger years, he was active in several choral groups, including, the Assumption College Glee Club, the Salem Oratorio and Ste. Anne’s Choir.

He is survived by two daughters, Celeste M. Corriveau and her companion, Steven Mauriello of Boxford, Anne Marie Bedard of Salem, two sons, Richard N. Bedard and his wife Judith of Laconia, NH, Philip G. Bedard and his wife Gail of Beverly, 3 grandchildren, Richard Bedard, Jr. and his wife Alison, Stephanie Bedard and Justin Corriveau. He also leaves two brothers Alfred J. Bedard, Jr. and Albert A. “Sonny” Bedard both of Salem, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Laurent J. Bedard and his sister, Gloria Tkachuk.

Relatives and friends are invited to his visiting hours on Wednesday, October 29, 2014 from 9:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. at the Levesque Funeral Home, 163 Lafayette St. [Route 114 / 1-A] Salem to be followed by his funeral mass in Ste. Anne Church, 290 Jefferson Ave., Salem at 11:30 A.M. Burial will be private.
