Obituary

Mr. Richard O. Aumais, a resident of Andover for more that 59 years and beloved husband of Mary T. (Brennan) Aumais, died at the Blair House Nursing Center in Tewksbury on Friday evening, October 24, 2014. He was 83 years old.
Born in Lawrence on January 30, 1931, Richard was the beloved son of the late Herve and Blanche (Hugo) Aumais. He was a graduate of Lawrence High School, class of 1949, where he was a star baseball pitcher. He proudly joined the Andover Police Department in October of 1958 and worked diligently for 37 years until his retirement in January of 1996. He was a lifelong member of the Mass Police Association and the Knights of Columbus, Andover.
Among his many accomplishments, in May of 1991, Richard received a lifesaving Award Medal from the Andover Police Department for helping to save the life of a construction worker who hit an underground power cable while using a jackhammer. Richard quickly jumped in the worksite hole and lifted the worker to safety in the seconds before the power came back through the line. It was his ability to lead by example, along with his caring, which made him a perfect fit for an Andover Policeman.
In his retirement, Richard took great pride in caring for the Andover High School Baseball Field named after his son, Peter T. Aumais. He was often planting, watering flowers and making sure the American Flag waved over the park. He especially enjoyed the many people who would stop and talk while he was there; some he knew and some were strangers, but all shared either compliments or a story about his son, Peter.
Besides his beloved wife, Mary, Richard will be missed by his loving children; Rosemary E. and her husband Geoffrey MacDonald of Andover, Maura A. Aumais of Boston, Richard M. and his wife Ann M. Aumais of Andover, Matthew A. and his wife Anne M. Aumais of Groton and Stephanie A. and her husband Sean Ross of Marshfield, siblings; Marie Aumais of Lawrence, Claire Lord of Dover, New Hampshire and Leon P. and his wife Linda Aumais of Lawrence, grandchildren; Meghan and Lauren Keefe, Bridget, Christine, Molly, Matthew, Peter and Olivia Aumais and Brendan, Ryan and Kerry Ross, sister-in-law; Sr. Alice Brennan, SND and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was also the loving father of the late Peter T. Aumais and brother of the late Herve Aumais, Jr.
His funeral mass will be celebrated in St. Augustine Church, 43 Essex Street, Andover on Wednesday, October 29, 2014, at 10 AM. Relatives and friends are most welcome to attend. Calling hours will be held in St. Augustine Church on Tuesday, October 28, 2014, from 5:15 to 9 PM. Interment will be privately held. For additional information, please visit, www.burkemagliozzi.com.
