Helen H. Lavery, 89, of North Providence, died peacefully Friday, October 24, 2014 at her home amongst her family. She was the widow of Thomas F. Lavery, Professor Emeritus of Rhode Island College.
Born in Providence, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Catherine (Strzepek) Hertel. She had lived in North Providence for 51 years and had previously lived in Providence.
She was the administrative assistant to the Director of the J.P. Adams Library at RIC for 25 years before retiring in 1990.
She is survived by her children: Thomas F. Lavery and his wife, Nancy of Cranston, Jane Barrette and her husband, Paul of North Providence, and James J. Lavery and his wife, Lois of Oxnard, CA her grandchildren: Paul, Derek, Kathleen, Thomas, Gerald, Matthew, Ian and Elizabeth, her great grandchildren: Thomas, Jayna, Arielle, Dylan, Halle, Sage, Josie, Andre and Tait and her brothers: Eugene Hertel of Southbury, CT and Frank Hertel of Wickford and her dear friend, Matthew Sotnik . She was the sister of the late Jennie Miele, Stacia Bouchard and Bertha Villari.
Her funeral will be held Tuesday at 8am from ANDERSON-WINFIELD Funeral Home, Route 44 at Greenville Common, Greenville. Mass of Christian Burial at 9am in St. Thomas Church, 65 Fruit Hill Avenue, Providence. Burial in St. Ann’s Cemetery, Cranston. Visitation Monday 4-7pm. In lieu of flowers donations in her memory may be made to Home & Hospice Care of RI or Alzheimer’s Assoc.
