Obituary

BEVERLY: Edward V. Lavoie, 92, died Friday morning, October 24, 2014 in the Blueberry Hill Healthcare Center following a brief illness. He was the beloved husband of Edith K. (Letarte) Lavoie.
Born in Salem on September 6, 1922, he was the son of the late George H. and Mary C. (Cassidy) Lavoie. A graduate of Salem High School class of 1940, he had resided in Salem for many years before moving to Beverly in 1950.
A U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, he served in the South Pacific and was honorably discharged as a Machinist Mate in December of 1945.
Ed was employed as a machinist at the United Shoe Machinery Corporation in Beverly for over twenty-five years before retiring in 1985. He was also a member of the Quarter Century Club. He enjoyed sailing and golfing.
In addition to his wife of sixty-nine years, he is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth E. and Susan (Mohler) Lavoie of Littleton, CO; daughter and son-in-law, Cathryn A. and Richard Markley of Dayville, CT; four grandchildren, Edward V. Lavoie, II of Montgomery, AL, Joseph Markley of New York City, NY, Anne Marie Moat and her husband, Jason of Golden, CO, Thomas Markley and his wife, Wendi (Metters) of Brooklyn, CT; four great-grandchildren, Devin and Taylor Markley and Emma and Cooper Moat; three sisters-in-law; two brothers-in-law and many nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by a brother, George Lavoie and a sister, Mary Levesque.
His funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday in St. Mary Star of the Sea Church, 253 Cabot St., Beverly at 11 a.m. Visitation will be held prior to the Mass in the Grondin Funeral Home, 376 Cabot Street, Beverly from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701. Interment will be held in the North Beverly Cemetery.
