Holden, MA - Jeanna Stina Olivia (Carlson) Swenson, 103, passed away on Monday, October 20, 2014, in the Worcester Rehab and Health Care Center. She was born in Svarto, Sweden on December 13, 1910, the daughter of the late Fritz and Kristina (Arnesen) Karlsson. She was the last of 8 siblings. She was predeceased by her husband Knut Birger Swenson in 1970 and by her son Carl E. Bratt in October 2004.
She leaves her daughter-in-law Jean M. Bratt of Princeton; 3 grandchildren - Veree M. O'Coin and her husband James of Princeton, Lorene Shanley and her husband Terence of Worcester, and Karlene Bloom and her fiance Thomas of San Diego, CA; 5 great-grandchildren - Merrilee Grenier and her husband Michael of Boston, Jamie Schulze and her husband Travis of Orlando, FL, Bergen Washburn of Boston, Daniel O'Coin and Sten Washburn, both of Park City, Utah.
The story of Jeanna's immigration from Sweden to the United States in 1927 is chronicled in the American Swedish Historical Museum in Philadelphia, PA. She enjoyed baking Swedish buns, sewing, knitting, crocheting, and preparing Sunday dinner for her family, all of which she taught to her grandchildren and will continue to be her legacy. She will be greatly missed and long remembered.
There are no services. A celebration of life will be planned at a later date. Nordgren Memorial Chapel 300 Lincoln St. Worcester is assisting the family with arrangements.
