Obituary

Jayme M. Rego, 87, of New Bedford died Monday October 13, 2014 at St. Luke's Hospital after a long illness. He was the husband of Edith (Medeiros) Rego.

Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Joseph and Georgianna (Barboza) Rego, he lived in New Bedford all of his life.

He was a communicant of the former St. John the Baptist Church.

Mr. Rego was formerly employed as a mechanic at Otis Air Force Base and Hanscom Field for 20 years. He later worked for Maxim Motor Company in Middleboro until his retirement.

During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy aboard the LST 370 in the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater. He was a member of the Andrews-Dahill Post 1531 Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a member and Past President of the New Bedford Chapter for Retarded Children.

He enjoyed playing the guitar.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Jayme Rego and wife Sandra J., and Robert Rego, all of New Bedford; a brother, Edward Rego of New Bedford; a niece and two nephews.

He was the grandfather of the late Traci Leigh Rego Arsenault, and brother of the late Arthur Rego.

His Memorial Service will be held on Friday October 24, 2014 at 7 PM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. Visiting hours will be Friday 4-7 PM prior to the service. For directions and guestbook, please visit www.saundersdwyer.com.
