Walter Hubert Burden

Augusta, GA - Entered into rest Wednesday, October 15, 2014, Walter Hubert Burden 93, husband of Nancy Burden.

Mr. Burden was born in Washington, Ga. Wilkes County. He and his wife have been long time residents of Hephzibah, Ga. He retired from Pet Dairy Co.
He and his wife were members of Bethany Chapel in Augusta, Ga.

In retirement he enjoyed gardening with his wife Nancy and sharing their produce with their many friends and neighbors in their beloved community. The family would like to express their gratitude to all their “Angels” in this community. A special thank you to the men and women of the Hephzibah Fire Department, Hephzibah Sherriff Department, Richmond County Police Department, and Gold Cross Emergency Medical Service. Mr. Burden enjoyed his friendships with these men and women over many years.

The family would like to recognize the excellent healthcare providers and staff on the 7th floor of University Hospital for their kindness and compassion, as well as the staff at Heart To Heart in Home Care.

Mr. Burden served in WWII, In the 102nd Infantry. His awards, during his service to his country, included a Bronze Star for his outstanding initiative in an operation during combat in Germany.

Family members in addition to his wife include children: Carolyn Rodgers (Bob), Donnie Burden (Kathy), and Jodie Burden Hess (Dennis), honorary son: William Dixon, grandchildren: Bobby Rodgers, Amy Burden, Brittany Patterson, Christopher Patterson; great-grandchildren: Eleanor Rodgers and Caroline Irwin; Sister: Kathryn Andrews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy Burden and Reese Moone Burden, a sister Mabel Jordan, a brother Herman Burden, and beloved baby sister Jacqueline Richardson.

A funeral service will be Monday October 20, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. in the chapel at Thomas Poteet & Son with Peter Hoffmann officiating. Entombment with Military Honors will follow in Westover Memorial Park. Pall Bearers will be Tommy Bone, Dennis Hess, Bill Denny, Bruce LeBlanc, George Williams III, and Christopher Patterson.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Augusta Wounded Warrior Project at 4115 Columbia Road Suite 5333, Martinez, Ga 30907.
