Obituary

Claire T. (Carreau) Faria, 85, of New Bedford died October 15, 2014 peacefully at home surrounded by her children.
She was the wife of the late New Bedford Police Captain Manuel Faria.
Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Armand and Florence (Deslauries) Carreau, she lived in New Bedford all of her life and attended area parochial schools including Sacred Heart School.
Mrs. Faria was a communicant of St. Mary's Church in Dartmouth.
She was formerly employed by Aerovox until she married and raised her children and later volunteered at the Sacred Heart Nursing Home for many years.
Mrs. Faria and her husband enjoyed watching their sons play baseball from Little League to varsity high school as well as many other local sports. She was a member of the Mt. Carmel Seniors Club and Moose Lodge Seniors Club.
Survivors include 2 sons, Carlton Faria and Brian Faria and his wife Paula, all of Dartmouth; a daughter, Carole Winterhalter and her husband Tom of Marlborough, MA; 5 grandchildren, Melissa Sakellaropoulos, Meagan Santos, Melissa Faria, Chelsea Faria and Brett Winterhalter; 5 great-grandchildren, Hannah, Nikolaos and Loukas Sakellaropoulos, Madilynn Santos and Autumn Levesque; 3 sisters, Dolores "Dolly" Costa and Cynthia Ferreira, both of New Bedford and Annette Cartron of Ellicott City, MD; and many nieces and nephews.
She was the sister of the late Vivian Gordon.
Her Funeral will be held on Monday, October 20th at 9 AM from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford followed by her Funeral Mass at St. Mary's Church, Dartmouth at 10 AM. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Sunday, October 19th from 4-8 PM.
