WEYMOUTH: Elmer J. Peckham, Jr. 86, died peacefully on Saturday, October 11, 2014 at the South Shore Hospital in Weymouth following a brief illness.
He was born in Newport, RI the son of the late Elmer J. Peckham, Sr. and Rachel (Peckham) Peckham.
Mr. Peckham is survived by his children Susan J. Webb and her husband Richard of Elkins, NH; Steven P. Peckham and his wife Leslee of Natick; Sandy Healey and her husband Richard of Framingham; Scott W. Peckham and his wife Karen of Quincy; Skip Peckham and his wife Jean of Natick and Sam R. Peckham and his wife Marie of Ashland. Grandfather of Jaime Buteau; Richard Webb; Amanda Peckham; Brian Peckham; Sam Peckham; Michael Healey; Jack Peckham; Karley Peckham and Katie Peckham. Great-grandfather of Isaac and Silas Buteau. Brother of the late Ellen Tarbell.
Elmer has been a resident of Weymouth for the past 8 years and previously resided in Cochituate. His formative years were spent in Newport, RI. He graduated from Roger Williams High School and then served his country during the Korean War as a PFC with the United States Army. He had a long career as an auto mechanic at Cochituate Motors and Framingham Ford. He was a race car driver for NEMA, was an enthusiastic fan of NASCAR and the New England Patriots, he loved all sports particularly high school. He enjoyed farming and especially the time spent with his family. In his recent years, he enjoyed all the activities and social events at the River Bay Club in Quincy.
Visitations will be held on Sunday, October 19, 2014 from 3:00 to 6:00 pm only at the John C. Bryant Funeral Home, 56 Pemberton Road (Off Rte 30), Cochituate.
His funeral services will be held on Monday, October 20, 2014 at 10:00 am at the Community United Methodist Church, 5 Damon St (Corner of Damon St. and Rte 27), Cochituate.
Private family interment will take place at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
In lieu of flowers his family suggests that donations in his memory may be sent to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, Kansas 66675.
