Obituary


Carver - Robert K. Ball, 84 of Carver, formerly of Whitman and Hyannis, died Monday October 13th. He was the beloved husband of the late Barbara E. (Sproules) Ball.

Born in Somerville and raised in North Abington he was the son of the late Walter L. and Mildred (Gould) Ball.

Robert had proudly served in the State Guard, the National Guard and onto the US Air Force as an electrician serving in Korea and stationed in Texas and Japan from 1948-1952.

Before his retirement from Nudall Construction, Robert had worked for 15 years as a brick & concrete finisher and later for the school system and housing authority both of Whitman.

Among his many accomplishments Robert had served as president of the Local 1700 AFSCME, the Whitman-Hanson Scholarship Foundation, the Homeland Park Assoc. in Whitman, and was a member of the VFW and American Legion of Plymouth.

For over 30 years he had valued his time as a volunteer firefighter for Abington and Whitman and had participated in many of the annual musters. He was a great cook, was an avid fisherman and hunter and had cherished the time spent with family and friends.

He is survived by his loving children Michael R. Ball and his wife Linda of Middleboro, Maureen E. Vlaco of Fairhaven, Pam M. Long of Carver and Robert K. Ball, Jr. of Plymouth. He is also survived by his sister Martha Ball of VA and his grandchildren Joseph Forte and Christopher and John Ball and his great granddaughter Sophia Rose Ball.

His services will be held Tuesday October 21 at 11 AM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Rte. 58 @ the rotary) Whitman. Burial will follow at Melrose Cemetery, 88 N. Pearl St., Brockton. Visiting hours will be held Monday October 20 from 4-7 PM.
