Obituary

Obeline M. Gariepy, 99, passed away peacefully Sunday at Westerly Health Center surrounded by her family. She was the loving wife of the late Armand A. Gariepy.
Born in Manville she was a daughter of the late Wilfrid and Rachel (Brunet) Soucy. She was raised in Manville and resided in North Smithfield and Blackstone during her life. She lived in Charlestown, RI with her family for the past 20 years.
In her younger years Mrs. Gariepy was employed at the Falls Yarn Mill and later at the Foxboro Company.
Obeline enjoyed bingo and was skilled at needlepoint and creating beautiful flower gardens around her home. She was also a volunteer at Hospice St. Antoine.
Obeline’s life spanned nearly a century and she will be remembered for her legacy of love and happiness she left to her family, friends and those who were blessed to have known her.
She is survived by two daughters Lorraine S. Branconnier of Charlestown and Suzanne M. Bouchard of North Kingstown. She was the mother of the late Armand R. Gariepy and Blanche D. Chichester and is the mother-in-law of Mary Gariepy of Blackstone and the late Lawrence Branconnier. She was the sister of the late Lucien, Romeo and Aurelien Soucy, Aline Goulet, Therese Glaude and Blanche Tyniak. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, several great-great-grandchildren and several generations of nieces and nephews.
Her funeral will be Thursday at 9:00 am from the Menard-Lacouture Funeral Home, 71 Central St. Manville followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in St. James Church, Division St. Manville. Burial will follow in St. James Cemetery, Manville. Visiting hours are Wednesday from 4-7 pm.
