Gilles Dutil

WEST SPRINGFIELD – Gilles Dutil, 78, a longtime resident of West Springfield, was Called Safely Home on Wednesday, October 8, 2014. He passed into Eternal Life at Wingate at West Springfield surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving wife, Helene. He was born in Saint Charles de Bellechasse, Province of Quebec, Canada on January 31, 1936, one of 15 children of the late Diogene Dutil and Germaine (Carriere) Dutil. He was raised in Canada and came with his wife, Helene, to Springfield in 1964 where they settled on Jefferson Avenue in the North End section of the city. They lived in Springfield until 1970 when they relocated to West Springfield. He was the longtime co-owner of Roy & Dutil Concrete in West Springfield. Gilles was a 34 year friend of Bill W. He was an avid skier and enjoyed camping and riding his motorcycle. He was a communicant of Saint Thomas the Apostle Church in West Springfield. He leaves his beloved wife and best friend, Helene (Fortin) Dutil. They were married on September 5, 1960 in Saint Charles de Bellechasse, P.Q., Canada and were blessed with over 54 years of happiness together. Besides his wife, he leaves ten brothers and sisters in Canada; his loving sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Theresa Fortin Roy and her husband, Guy, of West Springfield; and his many dear nephews, nieces, cousins and extended members of the Dutil and Fortin families. His funeral and burial will be held at the convenience of his family in Saint Charles de Bellechasse, Province of Quebec, Canada.
