Obituary

Jacob M. Melo, age 26 of Acushnet, died, unexpectedly, at his home on Monday, October 6, 2014. He was the loving son of the late Jacqueline H. (Dillie) and Michael A. Melo.
A lifelong resident of this area, Jacob was employed in the sales department at New England Lift Trucks. He also helped out at the family restaurant, M&C Cafe in New Bedford.
Jacob was a graduate of New Bedford High School Class of 2006 and UMASS Dartmouth Class of 2011. In his leisure time, he enjoyed skateboarding, muscle cars and music. He will be deeply missed by all of those who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his father, Michael A. Melo, a sister, Michaella Melo, paternal grandmother, Catherine Mello all of Acushnet; maternal grandfather, H. Dwayne Dillie of Washington, Pennsylvania; an aunt, Lynn Briselli and her husband, Dave; an uncle, Paul Melo and his wife, Lisa; as well as 3 cousins: Nathan, Matthew and Victoria Melo. Jacob was predeceased by his maternal grandmother Caroline Brooks Dillie and his paternal grandfather Manuel C. Mello.
Visiting hours will take place Friday evening in the funeral home from 5 – 8 P.M. Additional visitation will be held on Saturday morning in the funeral home from 9:00 – 10:00 A.M prior to his burial in Rural Cemetery. Arrangements placed in the care of Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. in New Bedford, Ma.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Jacob’s name to the Greater New Bedford Suicide Prevention Coalition. You may also honor Jacob’s memory by spending more time with your family.
