Obituary

Arthur H. Gurney, age 87, of Raynham, formerly of Brockton, died October 8, 2014 at Brigham & Women’s Hospital. He was the loving husband for 60 years of Elaine M. (Boisseau) Gurney. Born in Whitman, he was raised and educated in Brockton, son of the late Howard and Blanche (Lucier) Gurney. Arthur was an Army veteran of Korea and had been stationed in Washington DC. He was a member of Teamsters Local 653 and had been employed at Sullivan’s Express in Brockton and retired in 1985 from Deehan’s Express in Whitman. In his retirement years, he worked at Easton Country Club, which he thoroughly enjoyed as an avid golfer.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three grandchildren Brian McCarthy and his wife Heather of Carver, Julianne Mims and her husband Robert of Abington, and Joanne Fennell of Springfield; a great granddaughter Madison Mims; a brother Herbert Gurney of Brockton; his sister in law Eleanor Powers of Bridgewater and several nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late Diane M. McCarthy and stepfather of the late Francis Fennell.
Visiting Hours will be held in the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street (Rte 123) Brockton, Friday 4-8pm. The funeral procession will gather at the funeral home Saturday at 8am for a funeral Mass in Holy Family Church, East Taunton at 9:30am. Burial in Calvary Cemetery. Donations in Arthur’s name may be made to the National Kidney Foundation, 30 East 33rd Street, New York, NY 10016.
