Obituary

Mrs. Aurelia M (Alves) Soares, of Taunton, died Monday, October 6 at her residence following a brief illness. She was the beloved wife of the late Norberto Soares. She was born 80 years ago in Mosteiros, San Miguel, Azores, the daughter of the late Manuel and Maria (Conceicao) Alves. She was educated in the Azores and had been a Taunton resident for the past 47 years. Prior to her retirement, she had been employed an an assembler for Swank, Inc. in Attleboro for 10 years. Aurelia was a skilled seamstress, specializing in embroidery for many years. At one time, she embroidered for the Governor’s wife in the Azores. She enjoyed spending time with her grandson, Austin, making her own clothing, gardening, and was a talented cook. She was a communicant of St. Anthony’s Church in Taunton.
She leaves: 1 son: Paul R. Soares and his wife, Jacqueline of Raynham; 2 sisters: Laura Medeiros and her husband, Eduardo, and Conceicao Camara and her husband, Jose, both of San Miguel; a sister-in-law: Mary Teresa Alves of Somerset; 1 grandson: Austin R. Soares of Raynham, and several nieces and nephews. Aurelia was also the sister of the late Carlos Alves and Adalberto Alves.
Funeral services will be held from The Riendeau-Mulvey Funeral Home, 467 Bay Street, on Saturday, October 11 at 9:00 A.M. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow in St. Anthony’s Church at 10:00 A.M. Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting Hours will be held on Friday, from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M.
