HAVERHILL: Josephine T. (DiFloures) Matthews, 87, died Tuesday, October 7, 2014 in the Lawrence General Hospital following a brief illness. She was the wife of the late John J. Matthews who died in 1993.
Born in Haverhill on July 16, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Louis and Julia (Kapella) DiFloures. Josephine has resided in Haverhill most of her life and was a graduate of Haverhill High School.
Josephine was employed at Lucent Technologies in North Andover for twenty-five years before retiring as a supervisor.
She is survived by her daughter, Sharon A. Schofield and her husband, William; her son, Michael J. Matthews; four grandchildren, William Schofield, III and his wife, Christina, Kristen Boisselle-Schofield and her wife, Katrina, Jessica Matthews and John Matthews; three great-grandchildren, Thomas, Michael and Grace Schofield; two sisters, Mary Amidio and Louisa Chabot; two brothers, Anthony and Bernardo DiFloures and many nieces and nephews.
Her funeral service will be held on Friday in the Linnehan-Grondin Funeral Home, 129 Kenoza Ave., Haverhill at 10 a.m. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday from 4 -7 p.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to the charity of one’s choice. Interment will be in St. Patricks’ Cemetery, Haverhill.
