Alfred Joseph Roy, Jr. a resident of Medford and beloved husband of the late Ruth Ann (Lavin)Roy, died at the Everett Rehabilitation & Nursing Ceneter in Everett on Sunday evening, October 5, 2014. He was 82 years old.
Born in New Bedford, Al was the beloved son of the late Alfred J., Sr. and Exzelina (Roy) Roy. Al was a US Airforce Veteran serving for more than 20 years during the Korean and Vietnam conflicts. He attained the rank of Technical Sergeant. In civilian life, Mr. Roy worked for the US Postal Service, first as a delivery man and then as a clerk. Mr. Roy loved watching the local sports teams. His greatest love was to spend time with his nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. He will be dearly missed.
He was the brother of George Roy of Lynn, Cecile and her husband Fred Berube of Presque Isle, Maine, Irene and her husband Robert Walz of Spicer, Minnesota and the late Ray Roy, Florence Roy, Theresa Rouleau, Genieve Boyd, brother and sisters-in-law; Thomas F. and his wife Rose Lavin of Medford, Carol Roy of Bererly, Nancy Ray of Cambridge and Judith Lavin of Revere, nieces and nephews; Karen Lavin of Medford, Charles Anderson of Melrose, Gail Fagundo of Malden Thomas Anderson of Melrose, Judith Delsignore of Canton, Annmarie Giordano of Malden, Maureen Lavin of Malden, Nancy Susan Ray of Cambridge and Elizabeth Willis of Melrose and many grand-nieces and grand-nephews. Al was lovingly cared for by his grand-nephew; Ronald Edgehill, Jr. of Somerville.
His funeral will be held on Thursday, October 9, 2014, from the Beals-Geake-Magliozzi Funeral Home, 29 Governors Avenue, Medford at 9 AM followed by a Mass of Christian burial celebrated in St. Raphael Church, 514 High Street, Medford, at 10:30 AM. Relatives and friends are most welcome to attend. Interment will be held in Oak Grove Cemetery in Medford.
