Obituary

FRAMINGHAM: Edward Joseph Jolley, age 79, of Framingham, a retired Boston Edison employee and tireless volunteer on behalf of veterans, died peacefully surrounded by the love of his family at home early Monday morning, on October 6, 2014. He was the devoted husband of Mary M. (Thornton) Jolley for 53 years.

Born in Boston and raised in South Boston and Brookline, he was a son of the late Edward M. and Marjorie (Donahue) Jolley. Ed graduated from Brookline High School in 1954 and that same month enlisted with the United States Marine Corps. He served the duration of the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1957.

Ed was employed as a mechanic with Foreign Motors of Brookline prior joining Boston Edison. He and Mary were married in 1961 and within a few years settled in Framingham to raise their growing family. He retired from the Boston Edison Underground after 35 years with the company. During much of his time there he served as Chief Steward with UWUA Local 369. For the past fifteen years Ed had worked part time in security for the TJX Company.

Ed became involved with local veterans’ organizations, eventually becoming an integral figure in the Natick area veterans’ services. The current president of the Natick Veteran’s Council, and adjutant and past commandant of the MetroWest Marine Corps League Detachment #1037, he had also been active through the years with Amvets Post #79, American Legion Post #107, and Lodge #1425 BPO Elks, all of Natick. Ed favored pastime was reading histories and mysteries as well as keeping well versed in current events by reading several newspapers a day.

In addition to Mary, he is survived by a son, Edward J. Jolley of Harwich; three daughters, Suzanne M. Ulanski and husband Jim of Franklin, Victoria Queiros and husband Robert of Holden, and Jennifer A. Green and husband Jason of Holliston; nine grandchildren, Jessica, James, Caroline, Ryan, Meredith, Kyle, Aidan, Riley, and Joseph; and his sister, Marjorie Agnew and husband of Canton; and many nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Joseph Jolley.

His funeral from the John Everett & Sons Funeral Home, 4 Park Street at Natick Common, Friday, Oct. 10th at 9:00AM with a Mass of Christian Burial at Saint George Catholic Church, 74 School Street, Framingham at 10:00AM. Interment with Military Honors to follow at Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne at 2:45PM.
