Obituary

Doris D. “Dot” Smith, 81, of Woonsocket died Sunday at Woonsocket Health Center. She was the loving wife of Emile R. “Smitty” Smith. They were married on September 3, 1955.
Born in Woonsocket she was a daughter of the late Albert and Roseanne (Sabourin) Doherty. She was a lifelong resident of the city.
Dot was employed at Tupperware and also worked at Uniroyal and Murray Worsted Company.
Dot exercised her special talents by making numerous crafts, costumes and her crochet work. She also enjoyed photography and was an avid flower and vegetable gardener.
Dot will be remembered as a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and cherished her great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband of 59 years she is survived by three sons Alan Smith and his wife, Karen, of Cumberland, Mark Smith and his wife, Lise, and Scott Smith (WFD) and his wife, Michelle, and a daughter Gail Smith and her husband, Raymond Adam, all of Woonsocket. She was the sister of Ernest Doherty of Woonsocket, Irene Sutherland of FL and Rita Smith of Missouri. She is also survived by 9 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Her funeral will be Thursday at 9:00 am from the Menard-Lacouture Funeral Home, 127 Carrington Ave. Woonsocket followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in St. Agatha Church, Joffre Ave. Woonsocket. Burial will follow in St. Charles Cemetery, Blackstone. Visiting hours are Wednesday from 5-8 pm.
