Obituary

Thomas I. Hammel of Natick passed away peacefully on Friday morning, October 3, 2014. He was eighty-nine years old.

Son of the late John and Josephine (Findley) Hammel. Devoted husband of the late Theresa E. (Vickery) Hammel with whom he shared sixty-four years of marriage.

Loving father of two sons, Thomas D. Hammel and his wife Patricia of Easthamton and Clifford P. Hammel and his wife Betsy of Natick; two daughters, Diane M. Sherman and her husband Donald of Millis and Kathy A. Diagle and Bernard Kuhn of Franklin.

Cherished grandfather of Steven Daigle of Colorado and Taylor Daigle of Franklin. Caring brother of the late John Hammel, Catherine Vickery, Francis Hammel and William Hammel. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.

U.S. Army Corporal World War II Veteran with the 87th Mortar Battalion serving during D Day on Utah Beach, St. Lo, France and seeing combat in France, Belgium and Germany where he received commendations on July 18, 1944 and December 6, 1944 and the Bronze and Silver Star.

Tom loved his whole family, children, grandchildren, siblings, in-laws and friends. He worked for General Motors in Framingham for forty-one years and enjoyed gardening, home renovations, the Boston Red Sox, New England Patriots, flea markets and antiquing.

Funeral from the John Everett & Sons Funeral Home, 4 Park St., at Natick Common on Thursday, October 9th at 9:00AM. A Mass of Resurrection will be held in St. Patrick’s Church, 44 E. Central St., Natick at 10:00AM. Relatives and friends respectfully invited.

Burial in Brookdale Cemetery, Dedham with Military Honors. Visiting hours Wednesday from 4:00-7:00PM in the funeral home.
