New Bedford – Joaquina Santos, age 91 of New Bedford, passed away, peacefully, on Tuesday, September 30, 2014 at The Oaks. She was the widow of Louis Santos and the daughter of Mary (Oliveira) and John G. Andrade. Mrs. Santos was a lifelong resident of this area and worked as an Assistant Dietician until her retirement. She then worked at Wal Mart where after 3 years she was voted Grandmother of the East Wareham Wal Mart.
Mrs. Santos was dedicated member of the Verdean Veterans Club as well as The Ladies Auxiliary Friendship Club at Tripp Towers.
Her family includes 5 children: Mary L. Silveira of Chandler, AZ, Louis R. Santos and his wife, Lanita, of Queen Creek, AZ, Ernest M. Santos and his wife Mariza of Acushnet, Cynthia A. Santos-Tomar and her husband, Jorge, of Georgia and the late Dennis P. Santos; stepbrother, Fernando de Graca of Lakeville; Several grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews.
Joaquina was predeceased by several siblings.
Joaquina’s funeral will be Monday, October 6 beginning at 8:00 A.M. with a Religious Service to be conducted in funeral home at 9:00 A.M. Burial will follow in St. John Cemetery. Visiting hours will take place in the funeral home on Sunday evening from 5 – 8 P.M. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
