Obituary

Damon Cecil Ross, 69, of Ocilla, Georgia, died Tuesday, September 30, 2014, at his residence.

Funeral services will be held 11 AM, Thursday, October 2, 2014, at The Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Ocilla, with the Rev. Glen Fussell and Elder Edward McIntyre officiating. Interment will follow in the Brushy Creek Cemetery in Irwin County. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 at the funeral home in Ocilla.

Mr. Ross was born September 14, 1945, in Irwin County, Georgia to the late J. D. Ross, Jr. and Etta Ruth Maddox Ross. He lived in the community all of his life and was a 1962 graduate of Irwin County High School where he played on the basketball team and was a state FFA officer. Mr. Ross was a farmer and owned/operated Rite-Way Trucking. He was a former president of the Irwin Youth League and coached baseball. Along with D.W. Harper, he coached an 18 & under softball league team to a national championship. He was an avid lover of sports, especially the Georgia Bulldogs. He enjoyed playing billiards and cards as well as fishing. He was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife: Daisy Ross of Ocilla; five children: Damon Keith Ross & Janet of Brunswick, Daniel Phillip Ross & Marlo of Douglas, Randall McCranie of Ocilla, Jerry Darrin Ross of Ocilla and Dana Herrington & Jason of Ocilla; seventeen grandchildren and one great-grandchild and a brother: Gerald Autry Ross & Jerri of Ocilla. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister: Jimmie Ruth Ross.
