James Allen Purvis, 68, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Wednesday, September 24, 2014, at Tift Regional Medical Center in Tifton, Georgia.
Funeral services will be held 2 PM, Saturday, September 27, 2014, at the Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Fitzgerald with the Rev. Allen Arowood officiating. Interment will follow in the Lax Community Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.
Mr. Purvis was born January 21, 1946, in Ocilla, Georgia, to the late Willis and Estelle Hutto Purvis. He lived in the community all of his life and was retired from the Georgia Department of Transportation as an equipment operator. He enjoyed fishing, raising chickens and building wire chicken cages for his friends. He was of the Holiness faith.
He is survived by his wife: June F. Purvis of Fitzgerald; son: James Lamar and Judy Dianne Purvis of Fitzgerald, granddaughter: Leslie Nicole and Devan Barrentine of Fitzgerald; great-grandchildren: Corey Ryan Barrentine and Aubree Grace Barrentine; brother: Wendell & Laquita Purvis of Nashville; sisters: Jan P. Manning of Wray, Vickie P. Hoth of Wray and Lynn P. & Robert Hutto of Wray.
