Margarida Sousa, age 81 of Fall River, passed away Sep. 20, 2014 at home with her loving family by her side. Born in Ponta Delgada, São Miguel, Açores, she was the wife of the late Carlos Luis Motta de Sousa and the daughter of the late Antonio Tome de Sousa and Maria Alvina (Rebelo) Sousa. Prior to retiring, Margarida was the owner of Novart Studio in the Flint Village of Fall River, and was a devoted parishioner of Santo Christo Church.
Margarida raised her family in Lisbon, Portugal where she earned her Grammar School Teaching Degree, and on Aug. 14, 2014, she graduated Magna Cum Laude from Bristol Community College with an Associate’s Degree in General Studies. She was also taking courses from UMASS Dartmouth. She was a long time member of the Ateneu Luso Americano, and a current member of the Nossa Senhora da Luz / Our Lady of Light Band Club, and the Phi Theta Kappa Academic Honor Society
She is survived by her children: Joseph Sousa and his spouse Robert H. Cory III of Lawrence, MA and Luisa Sousa of Fall River; her sister: Maria Helena Garcia of Fall River; her niece Ana Buccieri and her husband Peter.
Her funeral will take place from the MANUEL ROGERS & SONS FUNERAL HOME, INC. 1521 N. Main St. Fall River on THURSDAY at 8:00 A.M. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in Santo Christo Church at 9:00 A.M. Interment in St. Patrick’s Cemetery. Calling hours on WEDNESDAY from 4-8 P.M.
