Wayne M. Cummings, Sr., 78, of Derry, NH died Tuesday, September 16, 2014 at the Parkland Medical Center in Derry surrounded by his loving family. He was born on July 22, 1936 in Lewiston, ME, a son of the late Clarence and Sylvia (Morgan) Cummings. He was a resident of Derry for the last 50 years, formerly living in S. Paris, ME. Mr. Cummings served in the US Coast Guard. He was employed for 27 years at the Derry Post Office until his retirement. He previously volunteered as a Boy Scout leader in Derry. Wayne will be remembered as a wonderful husband, father and grandfather and was deeply devoted to his family.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, June D. (MacDavitt) Cummings of Derry, his four children, Susan Ptak, Wayne Cummings, Jr., Cheryl Cummings Sounia and her husband John, and Steven Cummings; one granddaughter, Tiffany Ptak; three sisters, Charmaine Penley, Lorraine Bailey, and Corinne Hammond; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours were held on Monday, September 22, 2014 from 9 -10:30am in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch St., Derry with funeral services to begin at 10:30am. Burial followed in the Forest Hill Cemetery, E. Derry.
