Obituary

NEW BEDFORD — Joan A. Hall, 82, of New Bedford, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family on September 14, 2014. She was the wife of the late Webster F. Hall, with whom she shared 55 years of marriage.

Born in Acushnet, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Elsie (Moxham) Marginson, she lived in New Bedford most of her life.

Mrs. Hall worked for many years as a legal secretary to the now Judge John Xifaris and many years for the law firm Lang, Strauss, Xifaris, and Bullard. Until her retirement, she worked for William Strauss, attorney at law. She was also a very active member and served as the former President of the Bristol County Legal Secretaries Association.


She was a 1950 graduate of New Bedford High School and attended Bristol Community College.

Mrs. Hall always enjoyed her cat Lily, traveling, going for ice cream, watching movies, and cheering on her favorite sports teams (Celtics, Red Sox, and Patriots). What she appreciated most was spending time with her children and grandchildren, especially at family cookouts.

She was a parishioner of the Acushnet-Wesley Church in Acushnet.

Her brothers Thomas Marginson of New Bedford and Donald Marginson, and wife Victoria, of New Bedford, survive Joan. She is also survived by two daughters and a son: Sandra (Hall) Cadieux and her husband Wayne, and Cynthia (Hall) Tougas and her companion Jeff Stickley, all of Dartmouth and her son, Randall Hall, and his wife Tracy (Gayton) of Mattapoisett. Mrs. Hall had nine grandchildren: Amy Bryant, Lori Meneses, Becky Cruz, Marc Cadieux, Courtney Tougas, Julia Hall, Ava Hall, Lila Hall, Mia Hall and two great-grandchildren, Owen Meneses and Briana Cruz. She is also survived by a niece, Lynn (Hall) Wilson of Florida and a nephew, Thomas J. Marginson of New Bedford.

Visiting hours will be Wednesday 5-8 PM at the Wilson Funeral Chapel, 479 County St., New Bedford. A private burial will take place Thursday at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.
