Obituary

Malden – Mary T. (Norris) McCarthy, 85, formerly of Malden, passed away peacefully at Woodbriar of Wilmington Nursing Home after a period of declining health.
Born in Boston, she was the only child of the late James J. and Mary B. (Fitzgerald) Norris. Raised in Charlestown she attended St. Francis DeSales Grammer School, was a 1946 graduate of St. John’s High School in Cambridge, and of Hitchcock Business School in Boston.
As a young lady she was employed at Liggett’s Drug located in North Station. She later worked in the business office of DiNatale Floor Company which was noted for manufacturing and maintaining the parquet floor at the Boston Garden.
She met and married her soul mate, and fabulous dance partner, Joseph F. McCarthy on September 10, 1949 and soon after started a family. Her early years of motherhood were spent in Easton and the later formative years were spent raising her four children in their home in Malden.
Mary was very active in her community. She especially enjoyed spending much of her time supporting all that her children pursued. She was a fabulous homemaker hosting the most festive holidays and celebrations for family and friends.
Mary enjoyed family time traveling throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico. Rail travel was especially memorable as her late husband, Joe, was employed by the railroad. She loved to share stories of travels with close friends to Hawaii, Ireland, Sicily, on many Caribbean cruises, and the joy of all being together at the beach.

Boland and her husband Robert F, of Marstons Mills, and Eileen M. Shuman and her husband Richard F., of Brattleboro, VT., two sons; William J. McCarthy, of York, ME and Michael J.
