Luiza (Tavares) DeMelo, age 89 of Florida, formerly of New Bedford, died at Brooksville Health Care Center in Florida on September 10, 2014. She was the loving wife of the late Manuel R. DeMelo and the daughter of the late Angelina (Sousa) and Guilherme Tavares. Mrs. DeMelo was born in Sao Miguel, Açores, moved to this country in 1968 where she resided most of her life until recently moving to Florida.
She is survived by 4 children: Helena Raposo of New Bedford, Maria Amaral of Florida, Luis DeMelo of Florida and Fernando DeMelo of New Bedford; as well as 9 grandchildren, several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Her funeral will be Thursday morning beginning in the funeral home at 8:00 A.M. and continuing with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 9:00 A.M. Burial will follow in St. John Cemetery. Visiting hours will take place in the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 5 - 8 P.M. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
