Leona W. Carlisle, 97, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Monday, September 8, 2014, at Pruitt Health Fitzgerald.
Graveside services will be held 1 P.M., Friday, September 12, 2014 at Resthaven Memorial Gardens in Lanett, Alabama with the Rev. Len Gipson officiating. The family will receive friends from 6-9 Wednesday evening at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.
Mrs. Carlisle was born August 12, 1917, in Chambers County, Alabama, to the late William Oscar & Mattie Bennett Williams. She worked as a spinner at Fitzgerald Mills and also worked at West Point Manufacturing in Riverview, Alabama. She moved to Fitzgerald in 1962 coming from Riverview. She was a member of Crossview Baptist Church and attended the Seekers Sunday school class.
She is survived by her daughters: Gail & Len Gipson of Ardmore, Oklahoma, Shaula Morris, Karen & Rock Leviner, and Wanda Carman, all of Fitzgerald; ten grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; ten great-great-grandchildren; and three sisters: Patsy Humphrey and Mae Jones, both of Columbus, and Faye Jeffers of Mississippi. Many nieces and nephews also survive. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: Joseph E. Carlisle; a son-in-law: W.D. “Brother” Morris; three brothers: LaRue Williams, Clinton Williams & Bill Williams; and five sisters: Ruby Anthony, Mildred Williams, Christine DeLoach, Lurline Davis, and June Riddle.
