Alvaro F. Reis, age 73 of New Bedford, passed away on Wednesday, September 3, 2014 at New Bedford Nursing Care and Rehabilitation Hospital. He was the loving husband of Maria (Costa) Reis and the son of Angela Maria (Aguiar) and Manuel Ferreira Reis.
Mr. Reis was born in Recife, Brazil, moved to Ginetes, São Miguel, Açores in 1953 before settling in this country in 1960. He worked in the Construction Industry for the Laborer’s International Union of North America until his retirement.
He is survived by his wife, Maria, of New Bedford; 2 children: Eusebio F. Reis and his wife, Elizabeth, of Cambridge, Ontario, and Madeline F. Faria and her husband, Mario, also of Cambridge, Ontario; 3 grandchildren: Erik and Nicole Reis, and Shane Faria; 2 siblings: Adelina F. Cordeiro and Angelina F. DeMelo, both of São Miguel, Açores; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Alvaro was predeceased by his brother, Antonio F. Reis.
His funeral will be Saturday morning beginning in the funeral home at 9:00 A.M. and continuing with a Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 10:00 A.M. Cremation is to follow. Visitation will be Friday evening in the funeral home from 6 – 8 P.M. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Arrangements are placed in the care of Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St in New Bedford.
