Obituary

Rice, Virginia G. (AKA Ginny) of Chestnut Hill, on September 1, 2014, after a courageous and complicated battle with cancer. To the end she maintained her grace and dignity and endeared all at MGH with her huge smile and sharp wit. Ginny was the loving and devoted wife of the late David A. Rice. She was the endearing sister of Susan M. Griffin and Kathleen M. Griffin. She loved them dearly as they did her. Ginny was the daughter of the late Virginia M. and John Griffin. She leaves her dearest and loyal friends Marylou Stebbins and Paul Miglierina. She is survived by a sister-in-law Mary Rice and her children as well as several of her late husbands’ cousins.

Ginny was a graduate of Notre Dame Academy and Emanuel College. She attended Columbia University Graduate School majoring in sociology.Ginny then pursued a Master’s degree in Social Work at Boston College. For many years she was a clinical social worker in Framingham where she had a gratifying career and was well respected by both her colleagues and patients. Throughout her marriage she travelled extensively with her husband, who was frequently a visiting law professor, throughout the United States and other countries.

A viewing will be held from 7:00 to 8:00 PM on Monday, September 8, at the Robert J. Lawler & Crosby Funeral Home, 1803 Centre St. WEST ROXBURY.

On Tuesday September 9 a Memorial Mass will be held at 10:00 AM at St. Ignatius Church, Chestnut Hill followed by the Interment at St. Josephs Cemetery in West Roxbury.

In lieu of flowers, if one wishes a donation may be made in Virginia’s name to the Mass General Cancer Research Center. Checks should be mailed to Cancer Research in memory of Virginia G. Rice, MGH Development Office, 165 Cambridge Street, Suite 600, Boston, MA 02114.
