Joe S. Phillips, 101, of Fitzgerald, died Friday, August 29, 2014, at Pruitt Health of Fitzgerald.
Funeral services will be held 11 A.M., Monday, September 1, 2014, at The Paulk Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Steve Hand and the Rev. Jeff Parmer officiating. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-9 Sunday evening at the funeral home.
Mr. Phillips was born May 18, 1913, in nForsyth County, Georgia to the late Maul George & Willie Dean Samples Phillips. He was a lifetime farmer who enjoyed providing for his family. He passed down his respect of hard work to his sons and was able to live independently late into his 90s. He was the oldest living member of Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church.
He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law: Kyle & Jean Phillips and Kent & Linda Phillips, all of Fitzgerald; his grandchildren and their spouses: Kevin & Nan Phillips of Fitzgerald, Melissa & Brad Kirkland of Nashville, Jeremy & Ashley Phillips and Justin Phillips, all of Fitzgerald; his great-grandchildren: Olivia Phillips, Nate Phillips, Kate Phillips, Natalee Phillips, Kyler Kirkland, and Easton Kirkland; and one sister: Grace Nash of Snellville. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife: Annie Mae Stokes Phillips; a daughter: Jo Ann Phillips; four brothers and four sisters.
