Richard Lloyd Hewitt (Dick to friends), died at his home in Mansfield, MA on August 30th 2014, he was 81.
Richard was born in Framingham MA on June 15th, 1933 to Sigrid and Lloyd Hewitt. He was raised in Keene NH, with his two brothers (Kenneth & David) and a sister (Janet). After graduating from University of New Hampshire, Richard went into the United States Navy Reserve and started a family including his first wife, Ingrid, and two sons, Thomas and Peter. At that time he also acquired his MBA at the University of Connecticut. He worked as a production manager at various manufacturing companies before settling in Clinton, NY in the 1970’s. He moved to Bangor Maine with Barbara in the 1990’s, and remained there until moving to Mansfield in 2008.
Richard was affectionately known as “Encyclopedia Richard”, as he often knew the answers to obscure questions. As a youth he loved to memorize facts from the encyclopedia about interesting things and people in political history. He was an avid trout fisherman, and spent many hours happily wading in streams. He and his wife Barbara loved to travel, and they saw much of the world while aboard their various cruises. After retirement, Richard volunteered at the Eastern Agency on Aging in Bangor where he assisted many people with estate planning and other financial matters.
Richard is survived by his wife, Barbara D. Hewitt; his brother, David Hewitt; his sons, Thomas and Peter Hewitt; his two step-children, Peter Dermody and Andrea White; five nieces and nephews and eight grandchildren.
