Obituary

WORCESTER: Thomas P. Carney, 88, formerly of Worcester, a long time resident of Vienna, VA, died on Monday, August 25, 2014 in Arlington, VA.
He is survived by his children, Paul Carney, Deborah Dulitz, and her husband John Dulitz; his grandchildren, Nathaniel Nolan, Stephanie Rinthalukay and her husband Saysana Rinthalukay; his great-grandchildren, Yasmin Nolan and Alejandro Nolan; his sister-in-law Margaret T. Carney of Worcester; and nieces and nephews. His wife, Alice (Meers) Carney; a sister, Mary R. Ryder; and two brothers, John F. Carney, Jr. and David G. Carney, all predeceased him.
Tom was born and raised in Worcester, son of the late John F. and Margaret (Friend) Carney and graduated from North High School. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the Army Air Corp and served during World War II. He went on to earn a Bachelor's Degree in Political Science from Holy Cross College. He later served in the USNR as an ensign. After college, he joined the Central Intelligence Agency where he served as a Case Officer in both Europe and Asia before retiring after 31 years of service. After retiring, he continued working with the Agency as a consultant for another 24 years.
A Memorial Mass will be held in his honor on Tuesday, September 2, 2014 at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of Good Counsel Church in Vienna, VA. Thomas will be inurned at Arlington National Cemetery next to his wife, Alice.
The family suggests donations in memory of Tom may be sent to Catholic Charities of Arlington, 200 N. Glebe Road, Suite 506, Arlington, VA 22203.
