Joseph D. Tavares, age 94 of Fall River, passed away Aug. 29, 2014. He was the husband of the late Irondina (Ledo) Tavares and the son of the late Joseph and Maria (Soares Correia) Tavares. Prior to retiring, Joe worked as a Foreman at Eastern Sportswear, and previously worked at L.B. File. He was a former member of the Fall River Pigeon Club, and a former soccer player. He was a US Navy Veteran of WW II.
He is survived by his children: Joseph Robert Tavares of GA, Eileen Miles and Nancy Saravo, both of Fall River, and Carol Lavigne of Moosup , CT; brothers: Richard Tavares of FL and Arthur Tavares of Somerset; 10 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; several nieces & nephews. He was the grandfather of 3 late grandchildren, and the brother of the late William Tavares and Violet Joaquin.
His funeral will take place from the MANUEL ROGERS & SONS FUNERAL HOME, INC. 1521 N. Main St., Fall River on MONDAY at 9:00 A.M. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Michael’s Church at 10:00 A.M. Cremation to follow. Calling hours on SUNDAY 3-7 P.M.
