John Medeiros, age 84, of Swansea, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family. He was the loving husband of the late Dolores (Mello) Medeiros and son of the late Joseph and Evangelina (Viveiros) Medeiros. John was a veteran of the Army and served in the Korean War. Prior to retirement John received his degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Massachusetts and was employed as a Civil Engineer for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts for over 30 years. John was a member of St Dominic Church, serving regularly as an usher. Earlier in his life, John was an avid boxer and horse jockey at various race tracks. John travelled extensively with his wife of over 50 years. He also enjoyed spending time with family, sharing stories of his time growing up in Fall River with his siblings, gardening, daily walks, conversing with friends, reading, feeding the birds, and drives to the beach.
John was the loving father of Cynthia M. Rogers (husband Glenn) of Dartmouth and Paula J. Dodge (husband Robert) of Fall River; grandfather of Clinton L. Rogers, Robert P. Dodge (wife Katie), John J. Dodge, Holly M. Dodge-Capuano (husband Brian); great-grandfather of Grace M. Dodge and Abigail L. Capuano; brother of Louis and Joseph Medeiros. He also leaves behind many loved nieces and nephews. John is reunited with siblings Mary Linhares, Manuel “Doc” Medeiros, Angela Medeiros, Antone Medeiros, and Emily Xavier.
His funeral will take place from the Manuel Rogers & Sons Funeral Home, 1521 N. Main St., Fall River, MA TUESDAY, Sept. 2, 2014 at 9 A.M. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in Holy Name Church 709 Hanover St, Fall River, MA at 10 A.M. Interment in St. Patrick’s Cemetery.
